What Does “Not Tracking” Mean?
An aligner that is not tracking means it is no longer sitting flush against the teeth in the way it was designed to. This can happen for several reasons, including changes in tooth position, aligners not being worn for the recommended number of hours per day, or individual variation in how teeth respond to pressure over time. When tracking is off, the planned tooth movement may slow down or stop progressing as expected.
How Tracking Issues Are Managed at Melton Dental House
When Dr Ben identifies a tracking issue at a progress appointment, the first step is to assess what has happened and why. This typically involves a re-scan of the teeth to capture their current position accurately.
Re-Scanning and Resetting the Treatment Plan
A re-scan allows Dr Ben to see exactly where the teeth are sitting now versus where they were expected to be at this stage of treatment. Using this updated scan, a revised aligner series can be ordered that accounts for the current position of the teeth and gets treatment moving again from that point.
Additional Aligners
In most cases, managing a tracking issue involves ordering a new set of aligners based on the re-scan. These additional aligners are designed to bring the teeth back to the planned position before continuing through the remainder of the treatment series. This process adds time to the overall treatment, which your clinician will discuss with you at the appointment.
