What is Orthodontics?

The Types of Orthodontic Solutions

Headgear is sometimes used in conjunction with orthodontics to treat more severe misalignment issues as well as overbite or underbite issues. In this case, a head or face strap may be attached to the head to help align the teeth and jaw.

Palatal Expansion is a common issue with children who have narrow dental arches. In this case, a palatal expander is used to widen the upper jaw so that the arch opens up and the top and bottom teeth fit together more securely. Some adult patients may use this solution or may opt for a surgical separation solution to correct a narrow arch.

Jaw Surgery is used in more severe cases of jaw misalignment to reposition the bones to create a more even bite. While this may be a more invasive procedure, it may be necessary for some patients before orthodontic treatment to correctly align teeth.
