Single Implants at Melton

Single dental implants are a game changer for anyone with a missing tooth. Traditionally when just one tooth is lost, a dental bridge would be used to fill in the gap, or a patient may choose to live with a missing tooth. Today, dental implants offer patients a solution to replace one missing tooth without sacrificing the health of other teeth.

What are Single Implants?

Single implants are dental implants that replace a missing tooth and root. In the past, one missing tooth might require a full bridge in which the neighboring teeth are reshaped to act as anchors for the bridge, which will then hold a crown that replaced the tooth. Unfortunately, the bridge only replaces the missing tooth without replacing the tooth root, which can lead to gum and jawbone deterioration.

On the other hand, a single implant consists of a titanium post that will be placed in the jawbone to act as the tooth root. As the bone heals around the implant, it becomes stronger by stimulating bone growth and the body begins to treat it like a normal tooth root. A crown is then placed on the new implant that looks and feels like a natural tooth.

Benefits of Single Implants

Single implants not only look and feel like a real tooth, but they also protect the teeth around it without negatively affecting the gum. In fact, your mouth will remain healthy as your jawbone stays intact and keeps your other teeth secure for years. The following are more benefits of single dental implants:

Replacing the tooth root preserves bone and stimulates bone growth
Replacing a tooth prevents surrounding teeth from shifting out of place
Titanium is biocompatible with bone
Preserved jawbone keeps your face from changing shape for a continued, youthful look
Single implants are easier to clean than bridges
Chewing with an implant is as natural as chewing with your own teeth
They fit in with your other teeth to restore your smile and confidence

Candidates for the Single Implant

Most patients who want a single implant can get one, and they are a top dental solution to replace front teeth and molars as the crown can be designed to replace any tooth. If you are considering dental implants, you will need:

Healthy gums
Adequate jawbone to support the implant
Follow up care so we can monitor the health of your mouth and implants
If you are experiencing painful or bleeding gums, you cannot get a single implant right away, but we can help you get there. Our team at the Dental House can treat most stages of gum disease, and when your gums are healthy you will be able to receive an implant.

If your jawbone is deteriorated because a tooth has been missing for a while, we may still be able to help. Bone grafting is a technique that helps restore bone and has the ability to fuse with the existing bone, making it strong enough to support a single implant. Our skilled team of dentists will work to restore your oral health so you can enjoy the benefits of a dental implant.
