What Happens at Your Check-Up and Clean
A standard check-up at Melton Dental House covers an examination of your teeth, a professional clean, and X-rays or photos where clinically indicated. The appointment is tailored to what your mouth needs on the day, not a one-size-fits-all process.
Examination
Your clinician will examine your teeth and gums as part of the general dentistry assessment. If there are signs of decay, early gum disease, or anything that needs monitoring, this will be discussed with you clearly during the appointment.
X-Rays and Clinical Photos
X-rays are not taken at every visit. In most cases, they are updated every two to three years, or sooner if there is a specific clinical reason to do so. Clinical photos may also be taken to help show you exactly what your clinician is seeing, which makes it easier to understand what is happening with your oral health and what the recommended next steps are.
The Professional Clean
Over time, plaque hardens into tartar, a deposit that cannot be removed with a toothbrush alone. During your clean, your clinician uses professional equipment to remove tartar buildup from the tooth surfaces and along the gum line. Keeping on top of this every six months helps maintain gum health and reduces the risk of problems developing between visits.
