Are There Any Dietary Restrictions After the Procedure?
Hi, I’m Courtney the All on 4 Treatment Coordinator at Dental House Group and AO4 Implants.
Last Friday, one of my oldest friends and patient, Barry from Melton, decided to make the change from dentures to dental implants. After wearing his dentures for over 15 years, he decided now is the time. During our consultation, Barry asked me, “Hey Courtney, are there any dietary restrictions after the procedure?”
What a great question!
Well, right after the All-on-4 procedure, your diet will be restricted to soft, non-acidic, and non-spicy foods for the initial 1-2 weeks. Think soups, smoothies, and mashed potatoes. The goal is to minimise the stress on your new implants and avoid irritation.
The first couple of days after the procedure are the most restrictive. During this time, your mouth is healing, and it’s crucial to stick to soft foods and liquids. In the first week, you can gradually move to semi-solid foods, but it’s still essential to avoid anything hard or crunchy.
As your mouth and gums heal, after 4 months you can begin to reintroduce harder foods. However, for the first few months, it’s still best to avoid extremely hard, sticky, or chewy foods that could disturb the implant’s integration with the bone.
The good news is, once the implants have fully integrated, you can enjoy a much broader range of foods compared to when you were wearing the dentures. That said, maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial to ensure the long-term success of your implants.
